OUR HISTORY

Since our founding in 2003, Ecosil has focused on our mission to combat metallic corrosion by developing environmentally safe technologies and high performance products

OUR HISTORY

Milestone Events Timeline

Throughout our journey,  these important millstone events have laid solid foundations for our success.

  • 2003 -  Dr. Wim J. Vanooij and Max Sorenson established Ecosil Technologies LLC with the primary objective of developing and commercializing organofunctional silane-based products designed for corrosion protection of metals
  • 2004 - Licensed silane technology patents from UC;  partner with Calvary Industries as a key commercial collaborator
  • 2007 – 2018:  Secured several government grants such as the National Science Foundation (NSF) SBIR/STTR seed funds, as well as investments from industry partners to support technology development
  • 2010 - A joint venture, Shanghai Xingyu-Ecosil Surface Material Co., Ltd. was established to create a presence in Asia for product distribution and collaborative product development tailored to local markets
  • 2023 -  SILSBOND pretreatment was approved by the military for use on abrasive-blasted steel and aluminum, meeting the requirements of TT-C-490 specifications.

Founder : Dr. Wim J. Vanooij

Dr. Wim J. Vanooij was a professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Cincinnati. He was a pioneer in the development of organofunctional silane technology, offering an environmentally responsible alternative to hazardous chemicals such as hexavalent chromates commonly used in industry. His research focused primarily on metal corrosion protection, metal-to-rubber bonding, and additional related fields. Dr. Vanooij's significant contributions have been recognized through several distinguished honors, including the R&D 100 Award (2000), the British Royal Society of Chemistry Industrial Innovation Team Award (1999), and the Ohio Patent Award (2010).

Ecosil Technologies LLC was established in 2003 by Dr. Vanooij and Max Sorenson to advance silane technologies and to bring silane-based products to market. In its early years, Ecosil received development support through grants from several government agencies and industry collaborators

Successful Collaboraton

Successful Collaboraton

A key factor in our success has been building corporate partnerships to commercialize and market our new technologies.

Our first business partner was Calvary Industries, which we licensed in the US to manufacture and sell our products in 2007. This ongoing relationship is mutually beneficial.

In 2010, we formed our second long-term partnership—a joint venture in China: Shanghai Xingyu-Ecosil Surface Material Co., Ltd. We are continuously seeking technology innovators and investors to help us develop the next generation of products for our customers.
